Sam's Story
Sam's Story is Metro Exodus's second and last story DLC, released Feb 11, 2020, an open sandbox level in the tsunami-wrecked ruins of Vladivostok where Sam, a former US Marine of the Aurora's crew, looks for a way home to America. It runs about 5.5 to 8.5 hours and costs $9.99 on Steam.
Sam's Story is the last Metro content 4A made before Metro 2039, released before the 2022 invasion of Ukraine that 4A says darkened 2039's story; Metro 2039 has not shown Sam, Vladivostok or any of the Aurora's crew, as of Nov 3, 2026. Sam's Story is the second story DLC for Metro Exodus, out on Feb 11, 2020. Sam, Colonel Miller's bodyguard and "a US marine at the Moscow embassy before the bombs were dropped", leaves the Aurora to find a way back to the United States and perhaps his family. His road runs through Vladivostok, a sandbox in the remains of its tsunami-ravaged harbors, the largest of Exodus's DLC at 5.5 hours for the story. In the clip, Gaming Harry tells Sam's story from the main game.

Who is Sam in Metro Exodus?
Sam is one of the Spartans on The Aurora in the main game, Miller's bodyguard and always the optimist: Deep Silver gives him the line "Don't worry man, everything's going to be A-OK!" He was a Marine at the American embassy in Moscow when the war began. Once the Spartans learned in Exodus that other cities survived the war, he wanted to go home, and the DLC is that attempt. The rest of the crew is on Metro Characters.
What is in Vladivostok?
Like the Volga, the Caspian and the Taiga of the main game, Vladivostok is an open level rather than a corridor. Steam calls it a "sandbox survival landscape" of tsunami-damaged harbors and ruined industrial and residential districts, in which Sam must use the tactics the Spartans learned so far. A captain Sam meets there matters to the story: the achievement "A Man of Principle", for earning the Captain's full trust, is held by only 4.0% of Metro Exodus's Steam players, as of Nov 3, 2026. Sam's weapons can be upgraded too, with the achievements naming the Sammy rifle and the Stallion pistol.
Endings
Finishing Sam's Story earns "The Last Hero", held by 12.3% of Metro Exodus's Steam players, as of Nov 3, 2026. How many endings it has, and what decides them, is not covered by any source read for this page, so they are not described here. The endings of the main games are on Metro Endings.
Reception and price
Metacritic has too few critic reviews for a Metascore and shows a user score of 6.7 from 49 ratings, as of Nov 3, 2026. On Steam it is Mostly Positive, 78% of 805 reviews, as of Nov 3, 2026, a little below The Two Colonels' 82%. It costs $9.99 alone, $14.99 in the Expansion Pass with The Two Colonels, or $39.99 in the Gold Edition with the game, as of Nov 3, 2026, and includes its Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition version.
