The Two Colonels

The Two Colonels is Metro Exodus's first story DLC, released Aug 20, 2019, a linear two-to-three-hour chapter in the tunnels under Novosibirsk where Colonel Khlebnikov tries to reach his son and, a year later, Colonel Miller retraces his steps. It adds the flamethrower and costs $6.99 on Steam.

The Two Colonels was 4A's last step back into the tunnels before Metro 2039, which its makers say goes "back to the tunnels"; Metro 2039 has not shown Khlebnikov, Kirill or Novosibirsk, as of Nov 3, 2026. The Two Colonels is the first of two story DLCs for Metro Exodus, released on Aug 20, 2019. On New Year's Eve, Colonel Khlebnikov travels under the dead city of Novosibirsk to reach his son, Kirill; a year later, Colonel Miller retraces his last days. It is linear, in the style of the first two games, adds the flamethrower, and takes about two to three hours.

What is The Two Colonels about?

Under Novosibirsk, survivors hold out in the tunnels, and Steam's description sets the scene: tunnel slime is spreading, mutant attacks are increasing, and the "green stuff" that filters the air is running out, pushing the city's leaders to hard choices. Through this Khlebnikov makes his way home for New Year's Eve to his son, Kirill. A year on, Colonel Miller, commander of the Aurora, follows the same route; Steam calls it Miller retracing Khlebnikov's final days. The main game's characters are on Metro Characters. The clip is Gaming Harry's retelling of the DLC's story.

How does it play?

After Exodus's open levels, The Two Colonels is a linear, story-driven chapter of cramped tunnels, which PC Gamer called a return to tunnels and horror. Its new weapon is a flamethrower. The achievement for finishing it, "Real Colonel", is held by 14.9% of Metro Exodus's Steam players, as of Nov 3, 2026. In the clip, Digital Foundry shows the flamethrower lighting the tunnels with ray tracing on and off.

Reception and price

Too few critics reviewed it for a Metascore: Metacritic lists four reviews (Push Square 50, Destructoid 70, Atomix 82) and a user score of 7.6, as of Nov 3, 2026. Steam players rate it higher, Very Positive at 82% of 1,105 reviews. At launch it cost $8 on Epic and Steam, or came in the $25 Expansion Pass. On Steam it is now $6.99 alone, the Expansion Pass $14.99 and the Gold Edition with the game $39.99, as of Nov 3, 2026. Buying it includes its version for the Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition, which ray traces the DLC too. The other DLC is Sam's Story.
