The Aurora is the train of Metro Exodus: an armored steam locomotive that carries Artyom, Anna, Colonel Miller and the Spartan Rangers out of Moscow and across Russia, and acts as your station between missions. Metro 2039, out Feb 4, 2027, has not shown it as of Nov 3, 2026: the new game stays in Moscow, set four years after the Aurora left, and GamesRadar+ wrote that Artyom's Rangers "aren't coming back." How the Aurora came to be
Once the Spartans learn that Hanza's jammers kept Moscow cut off and that other cities survived, they cannot go home, and they leave aboard a train. The group names it Aurora after leaving the Metro, and it grows from a locomotive into a home as cars are added. On Steam, 69.0% of players have the achievement for naming the locomotive, as of Nov 3, 2026. The clip is Gaming Harry's retelling of Metro Exodus.
The journey
The Aurora crosses Russia from spring through autumn to nuclear winter, in search of a new home in the East. Each region brings the train to a stop for the armory, the crew and side adventures: the frozen Volga, the dried-up Caspian, where it runs out of coal and water, and the autumn Taiga, before the last trip into the Dead City. Steam's achievements name the stops as MOSCOW, VOLGA, YAMANTAU, CASPIAN, TAIGA and DEAD CITY, with a wedding in SUMMER (Steam Community). Not all companions survive the trip. Yermak's line about the old engine: "This speed is basically nothing for our old gal..." Keeping the crew whole, with Duke alive and Damir aboard, takes the right choices; the achievement for all three together, "Full Strength", is held by 13.0% of Steam players as of Nov 3, 2026.
