Colonel Miller

Colonel Miller is the commander of the Spartan Order in Metro: Last Light and Metro Exodus, Anna's father and Artyom's father-in-law, who loses his legs at D6 and commands the Aurora. He stars in The Two Colonels; Metro 2039 has not shown him as of Nov 3, 2026.

Colonel Miller is the commander of The Spartan Order in the Metro games: the leader of the survivors in Metro: Last Light, and in Metro Exodus the colonel of The Aurora, rational and harsh but caring toward his Spartans. He is Anna's father and Artyom's father-in-law, and the playable hero of The Two Colonels. Metro 2039, out Feb 4, 2027, has not shown or announced him as of Nov 3, 2026: it is set four years after Miller's Spartans left Moscow, and their Order now has Hunter, its first Spartan, ruling the Metro. The ending of Metro Exodus is told below. The clip is Gaming Harry's account of Miller.

Miller in Metro: Last Light

In Last Light's trailer Miller is the leader of the survivors and Anna is his daughter, a sniper who doubts the "supposed savior", Artyom. The game is the Metro's fight over the doomsday device of D6, the old military bunker. Miller lost his legs in the D6 conflict, the battle at the end of the game. The clip is Gaming Harry's retelling of Metro: Last Light.

Miller in Metro Exodus

By 2036 he walks on mechanical prosthetics and has become Artyom's disapproving father-in-law, convinced "Metro needs to be defended." Game Informer reads him as resenting Artyom for leading everyone out of Moscow. Once the Spartans learn the Metro was lied to, Miller commands the steam train Aurora across Russia, and his bodyguard is Sam, a former US Marine. Deep Silver gives him the line "Too many lives have already been sacrificed..." The clip is Gaming Harry's retelling of Metro Exodus.

How does Miller die?

Only in Metro Exodus's good ending. When Anna needs medicine and Artyom is poisoned by radiation in the Dead City, Miller gives Artyom his last anti-radiation dose and dies; Artyom survives, saves Anna and starts a settlement in Miller's memory. In the bad ending Artyom dies and Miller and Anna survive. The good ending's achievement, "Your Destination", reads "Assume command of the Order". How to reach each is on Metro Endings. The clip is Gaming Harry's retelling of the good ending.

The Two Colonels

Miller is the hero of the second half of The Two Colonels (Aug 20, 2019), the Exodus DLC set in the tunnels under the dead city of Novosibirsk. It intercuts Colonel Khlebnikov's last days, going home to his son Kirill on New Year's Eve, with Miller retracing his steps a year later. It is a linear, tunnel-bound story in the style of the first two games, with a flamethrower. The clip is Gaming Harry's retelling of The Two Colonels.

Is Miller called Melnik in the novels?

Readers often search the name Melnik alongside Miller's, from Glukhovsky's books. No publisher or press source read for this page names the novels' Ranger commander or ties him to the game's Miller as of Nov 3, 2026, so the match is left unconfirmed here; the books are on Metro 2033 (Novel) and Metro 2035 (Novel).
